Places | Landscape Summary

Whenever I travel, I never leave without my set of markers, pens, or watercolor paints. I make time during any trip, whether I'm visiting a new place, country, or city, to document my experience with Plein Air drawing and painting. This allows me to capture my sensory experience visually, and in a sensual manner. I can feel the sun on my skin, and the breeze in my hair. With the texture of the paint on my brush or the crisp line of a pen, I interpret the scene and create my artwork. This allows me to connect with the places I visit in a more meaningful way, and to create artwork that is truly unique.

David Hockney said "I had always planned to make a large painting of the early spring, when the first leaves are at the bottom of the trees, and they seem to float in space in a wonderful way. But the arrival of spring can't be do e in one picture." Words that are very true! Nonetheless, each time I paint the landscape I always try to capture that totality despite the futility. Plein air painting is one of my favorite activities to engage in during the sweltering South Carolina summers. Added bonus, while painting I forget about the humidity!
